La Plagne, Paradiski: What to do when you get there?

Discover what to do in La Plagne! Winter and summer alike, La Plagne is a leading destination in the Alps for nature and mountain lovers. Although the ski resorts are more popular in winter, in recent years they have become increasingly popular in summer, thanks to the many activities on offer in all seasons. And La Plagne Paradiski offers you the best mountain activities!

The history of one of the most famous resorts in the Alps began in December 1961 when the first resort opened: Plagne Centre. After a few years, the other villages were created and Champagny-en-Vanoise joined La Plagne to form today's ski area with Paradiski. The last site to open was Plagne Soleil in 1990, shortly before the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics. During the event, the luge and bobsleigh events will take place at La Plagne, which will give the ski resort visibility and exposure throughout France.

Located in the Savoie region of the French Alps, La Plagne enjoys a beautiful mountain setting. Imagine skiing with a view of Mont Blanc, or dog sledding in a valley on the side of a mountain above the Savoyard clouds, an ideal setting for all the activities available in La Plagne.

On the cultural side, La Plagne and its 11 villages, which form the La Plagne Paradiski ski area, have a rich history. During an archaeological excavation organised in 1982, researchers found traces of civilisation in the La Plagne valley dating back 7000 years! Remains of buildings dating from the first millennium, the Middle Ages, the mining era and the Second World War are still standing and are part of the history of La Plagne. Its rich history is accompanied by traditions and specialities that delight food lovers. Indeed, La Plagne and its surroundings are known for the cheese produced in the region, such as Beaufort, which originates from the mountain next to La Plagne.

Now the question remains, what to do in La Plagne to discover the resort and enjoy what it has to offer. In summer and winter, there are many activities available!

When the snow has melted and the mountains have shed their white coats, it's time to take to the skies even more and climb into a helicopter or take to the skies with a paraglider on your back to enjoy breathtaking views of Mont Blanc and the mountains surrounding La Plagne. If you're more of a landlubber, why not take a mountain bike ride through the rocky paths, forests or Bike Park, or go for a hike and discover the flora and fauna of the La Plagne Paradiski area. For those who love water activities, you can take advantage of the Isère to go white water rafting or hydrospeed down the river to experience incredible sensations.

Once winter arrives, there are new activities to do! With 425 km of ski runs and 130 lifts, La Plagne allows you to ski or snowboard down the slopes all winter long. Cross-country skiing and ski touring enthusiasts will appreciate the 200km of pistes and trails. Apart from the mainstream activities, you can also try out some more unusual activities. Thanks to the Olympic Bobsleigh track dating back to the Albertville Winter Games, you can enjoy a unique experience when you go down the track in a bobsleigh, you will reach up to 120 km/h! If you want even more unusual activities in La Plagne, why not climb an ice wall? Yes, in Champagny-en-Vanoise a real ice tower 22 metres high is standing to let you discover ice climbing. In the air, it will still be possible for you to take off in a paraglider or helicopter and this time enjoy the snow-covered mountains and the Mont Blanc overlooking the whole Alps. For those who prefer less thrilling activities, why not take a Fat Bike, mountain bike or even a sled dog ride to discover the forests and snowy plains of La Plagne in the Paradiski ski area.

There are so many activities to do in La Plagne in winter and summer that you will have to come back several times to discover them all!
