Tignes, Espace Killy: What to do when you get there?

Discover what to do in Tignes! At the gateway to Italy, Tignes is a dream come true with its paradisiacal setting between the mountains of the Alps. Throughout the year, there are many activities to do!

Popular throughout France, Tignes was first known as a summer destination during the first holidays in the inter-war years and thanks to the Bourg-Saint-Maurice train station which easily serves the resort. As a result of its popularity, Tignes began a major tourism project with the development of winter holidays, and despite some financial difficulties, the resort opened its doors in the 1960s. The project was finally completed 5 years later with the help of the State to complete the creation of the artificial lake of Tignes.

Located in Savoie between the Grande Motte, Mont Pourri and Tsanteleina, Tignes is surrounded by the Vanoise nature reserve and enjoys a magnificent mountain setting. And what better way to discover what Tignes has to offer than to do activities all around the resort. So pack your bags and set off on an unforgettable journey!

Culturally, Tignes is a great meeting point for all mountaineers. Surrounded by its 3 mountains and just a few kilometres from Mont Blanc, William Mathews decided to take on these mountains and started a wave of mountaineering in the area. In 1961, the mountaineer left his mark by naming La Pointe Mathews a mountain peak at 3,837m next to the Grande Casse. In the following years Mont Pourri, Grande Motte and Tsanteleina were also conquered by French and English climbers.

But Tignes is not only known for its alpine activities, gastronomy is also at the heart of the village! The cheeses of the region are their pride and joy, such as the Beaufort cheese which originates from an adjacent mountain as well as the Abondance cheese which is a little further down the Savoie.

To come back to the activities to do in Tignes, there are dozens of them which will delight the young and the old, the most daring and the calmest and all this regardless of the season!

This winter, the resort of Tignes offers a wide range of activities to make the most of your trip and the Savoyard setting.

Skiing on more than 300 km of slopes in the Tignes area, which can reach up to 3,450m in height, guarantees hours of skiing and maximum thrills. But other more unusual activities are also available to delight you. A bungee jump on skis from a ski jump is what you want. Then go to Bun J. Ride to take off and experience great sensations. To stay on the slopes, a Luge Park called Pala'Fou is waiting for you in Tignes and offers you to go down 3km of slope in luge at full speed. For the more hardened, why not try combining paragliding and skiing with speed riding, skiing while being propelled by a small paraglider to break speed records and experience extraordinary sensations. And if you want more, take a helicopter ride to the top of the slope and then go for an off-piste descent to discover the ski area like no one has ever done before!

Don't worry, there are other quieter but equally exciting activities available in Tignes. To discover the resort, why not go on a snowshoe hike, take FatBikes to cycle on the snow or let sled dogs guide you through the valleys and around the lakes of Tignes. If you want to get up high and enjoy the views of the mountains surrounding the resort, there are several activities available. Paragliding is a great way to experience the thrill of flying, but there are also helicopter and microlight trips available which are perfect for families to discover Tignes from the air.

Finally, if you dream of a winter like no other, the unusual activities are for you! Are you tempted by the horse-drawn buoy? Or by ice driving to do your best drifts on the snowy race track of Tignes. So head off to the Alps now for all these amazing and sensational activities.

The warmer seasons are also full of activities to do and will blow your mind. Firstly, take a walk around Tignes on a hike that will take you through the mountainous landscapes of the region. If you feel too lonely for a simple hike, strap a dog to your waist during a canine trek which will allow you to share a convivial moment with our canine friends, a superb activity which will delight parents and amaze children. Have fun discovering the joys of mountaineering during a via ferrata. During your stay, you can take advantage of Tignes' sports facilities to go skating, climbing, golfing or even mountain biking in the resort's Bike Park. To cool off, head to the Tignes lake and discover the water sports centre as well as Acroland, the sensational water park where you can slide at full speed on slides or springboards before landing in the water. If you want even more water activities, take a rafting or kayaking trip down the Isère and experience the thrill. In the air, a paragliding or helicopter flight over Tignes will allow you to admire the mountains and the Vanoise nature reserve that surround the Alpine resort.

Whatever the season, Tignes is full of activities to do! So get ready for adventure and extraordinary sensations!
