A picture-postcard location where snow-laden trees bend to the will of Mother Nature, this wonderland is what winter dreams are made of. Hike to the infamous Korouoma Frozen Waterfalls – deep in the Posio Forest, a landscape steeped in local legend!
Location
The Posio Forest is located 160km from central Rovaniemi. Korouoma Canyon is a series of waterfalls on a 5km circuit along The Koronjää trail - leading past stunning viewpoints where three massive frozen waterfalls - Charlie Brown, Mammoth Fall, and Brown River - create impressive sceneries.

Meet your guide at the activity base in Rovaniemi for this full-day scenic hiking excursion to Korouoma Canyon in Posio. Traveling an hour into the Arctic wilderness, this 4-hour hike is suitable for groups of friends and families alike – allowing you to connect with the raw beauty of the region and... learning how to make the perfect snowball along the way! Set to a leisurely pace, the 5km circle route runs clockwise along an old horse track and hikers can get in touch with the history of the area from your local guide. Stopping halfway for a traditional campfire BBQ, experience the traditional cuisine of the Arctic Circle, keeping warm with local grog before you set out to witness the frozen waterfalls ahead – a popular ice climbing setting, don’t be surprised to see hardy mountaineers practicing on its 100m ice shafts! Making your way back to your transport before dusk, the return journey will drop you off at your accommodation where your adventure will end.
Conditions
Operating during the winter season from November to May, this scenic hike is fairly easy – it has no stairs and it is well-marked. In the winter snowshoes or slip-resistant shoes are recommended as the trail gets very slippery.
Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian
