Activity Snapshot
Activity description
Join us for an authentic experience at our wilderness centre Camp Tamok, a 90-minute scenic drive from downtown Tromsø in Northern Norway. The evening tours offer excellent opportunities to experience the majestic Northern Lights.
We will take off to the mountains from our meeting point in Tromsø. Upon arrival at Camp Tamok, we will provide you with warm winter clothes and boots for the adventure ahead. It will then be time to discover the oldest form of transport in the North - reindeer sledding. As Lapland is home to the indigenous Sami people, this excursion will teach you plenty about the ancient Sami culture. A Sami guide will accompany you along your reindeer sledding tour, and you will be able to exchange stories while you revel in the natural wonders of Finnmark’s landscape, which if you are lucky will include the magical Northern Lights. During your outing, you will even get an introduction to lasso throwing, which is a central skill for the Samis’ survival in the Arctic North. Finally, at the end of the excursion, enjoy a sweet moment with the reindeer as you thank them for pulling you through the snow by giving them their evening meal.
After this memorable encounter with the indigenous Sami people, and once the reindeer have been fed, we will go and have dinner ourselves. Back at Camp Tamok, we will serve you a hot meal around an open fire in a reindeer herder’s tent. Once we have filled our bellies and wound down, we will head back to Tromsø.
Maximum weight of 220kg per sled
