Activity description

Join us for an authentic experience at our wilderness centre Camp Tamok, a 90-minute scenic drive from downtown Tromsø in Northern Norway. The evening tours offer excellent opportunities to experience the majestic Northern Lights.

We will take off to the mountains from our meeting point in Tromsø. Upon arrival at Camp Tamok, we will provide you with warm winter clothes and boots for the adventure ahead. It will then be time to discover the oldest form of transport in the North - reindeer sledding. As Lapland is home to the indigenous Sami people, this excursion will teach you plenty about the ancient Sami culture. A Sami guide will accompany you along your reindeer sledding tour, and you will be able to exchange stories while you revel in the natural wonders of Finnmark’s landscape, which if you are lucky will include the magical Northern Lights. During your outing, you will even get an introduction to lasso throwing, which is a central skill for the Samis’ survival in the Arctic North. Finally, at the end of the excursion, enjoy a sweet moment with the reindeer as you thank them for pulling you through the snow by giving them their evening meal.

After this memorable encounter with the indigenous Sami people, and once the reindeer have been fed, we will go and have dinner ourselves. Back at Camp Tamok, we will serve you a hot meal around an open fire in a reindeer herder’s tent. Once we have filled our bellies and wound down, we will head back to Tromsø.

Really enjoyed the evening. The talk and info about the Sami way of life was very interesting. Enjoyed meeting the reindeer and the food was really nice.

La sortie en traîneau à rennes est courte. Heureusement qu’il y avait des aurores boréales ce soir-là.

Had a good reindeer sledding. Reindeer cart was not comfortable and sledding time. I expected little more.

We did the reindeer sledding. Honestly, it couldn't have been a more perfect night for reindeer sledding. Aurora came out that night while we were sledding with our reindeer buddy. It couldn't have been more of a perfect scenario. Expect it was Cold AF and they gave us these onesees to wear but it would have warmer for us to wear our own jackets. Anyway regardless, the tour provider gave us an amazing experience. We had some delicious soup and tea to warm us, and we loved the experience of interacting with the reindeer with the sled and also the information they provided us about the Sami people. I felt as if they really welcomed us in this less than welcoming environment. Thank you for such a memorable experience!!!

Reindeer sledding evening trip in Tromsø

  • 5 / 5

The whole activity was awesome. Once arrived at the spot we equipped ourselves with warm clothes and then did a reindeer sledding trip in the night. The reindeers were beautiful and we saw amazing northern lights. It was really a magical moment. Then we had a very good, interesting and cozy moment with our guide, a traditional Sami where we discussed about his culture. It was really good.
