Activity Snapshot
Activity description
Descend into the depths of Normandy's oldest and most breathtaking cave system with half-day trips to the legendary 'Grotte de la Roche Percée' with caving specialists, Authentik Aventure.
Travelling 572 metres underground with only a headlamp to light the way, exploring the iconic Roche Percée cave system transports you to another world rich in local folklore and fairytale legend. Rumoured to hide Templar gold, the dry riverbeds, limestone squeezes and majestic galleries pose the perfect challenge for anyone new to this exciting underground activity.
Location
Situated in the dense forest that surrounds the river banks of the Seine, the Karst cave system that includes la Roche Percée is found in the Eure region of Normandy, a horseshoe bend rich in unspoilt pastoral land only 30-minutes from Rouen.
Activity
Organising half-day caving excursions based on previous experience and level, instructors use several safe and spacious routes through la Roche Percée that require little technical skill. Using a simple belay system to abseil into the gorge, groups can choose to explore the 150m long main gallery, follow ancient rivers or, for more experienced cavers, there are multiple crawl passages and squeezes.
