Activity Snapshot
Activity description
Stroll along the oldest trail in Santorini, heading uphill to the ruins of the Ancient Thera at sunrise, and then all the way back down the other side to the Black Sand Beach of Perissa. This hike makes the most of the cool hours of the morning to climb the 365 m (400 yards) to the Ancient Thera, and then rewards you with one of the best spots to view the sunrise in the whole of Santorini!
Your guide will meet you at the exit of Kamari, and after introductions, you will head up the spiralling route of Mesa Vouno Mountain at dawn. Once at the top, you will be able to break and take in the views of the sun as it rises over the Aegean, the ruins of the Ancient Thera at the forefront. Your guide will share with you the history of this spot as you pursue your hike down the other side of Mesa Vouno Mountain, in the direction of the town of Perissa.
Renowned for its Black Sand Beach and many restaurants and bars, Perissa is the perfect ending point to the hike. Why not cool off from your walk with a morning swim, or indulge in a hearty breakfast overlooking the sea? Ending at 8 a.m. the town will be yours to wander around before the crowds wake up and begin the hustle and bustle of the day.
An early morning hike is the best way to start the day on Santorini. Treat yourself to a magical sunrise on this hike to the Ancient Thera this Summer!
