Amethyst Mine Tour and Dig from Rovaniemi

Located 115 km (71 miles) from Rovaniemi city center, the Lampivaara Amethyst Mine is a popular destination that hosts tours year-round. As machines are not used to dig the stone onsite, the mine will remain sustainable for hundreds of years to come! 

The adventure begins after you've met your guide at the Arctic City Hotel or at the pre-arranged meeting point. After the 1.5-hour car ride, you'll take a short break at the Lampivaara Café, which offers a variety of warm drinks and delicious baked goods. 

During your tour, a professional guide will speak of the history and geology of the area, as well as the various cultural beliefs, properties, and uses of the purple gemstone. Then you'll give gemstone hunting/digging a try and will hopefully find a lovely amethyst memento to remember your Lapland trip for years to come! The excursion concludes with another break at the Lampivaara Café before heading back to Rovaniemi.
