Activity description

Come and watch the magical Northern Lights around a fire at the isolated and cosy Camp Tamok!

The ideal conditions for a Northern Lights sighting involve a dark location, far from light pollution in the towns, a starry cloudless sky, previous solar storms, and of course a warm and cosy camp in which to gaze up at the sky in total comfort. Embark with us to Camp Tamok, approximately 90 minutes away from Tromsø by bus, for a perfect evening of star-gazing and wonder.

We will meet in Tromsø before setting off to the camp. It is situated in the middle of totally untouched wilderness, near the mountains bordering Norway, Finland, and Sweden. This is situated in a different climate zone to Tromsø, and usually offers stable weather conditions for the Northern Lights. Once we have arrived, we will provide you with warm thermal clothing so you are in total comfort for the duration of your stay. Overalls, boots, mittens and hats will be on offer to make sure everyone is warm and protected. We will also give you a presentation on the aurora borealis, so you can learn the basics behind this natural phenomenon as well as get some insider tips on how to optmise your camera settings to get the best picture.

Then, our guides will select the best route depending on the evening's weather forecast, and we will walk together to some locations near the camp where the Northern Lights are brightest. Once you have been sufficiently dazzled by the dancing lights of the Arctic, we will head back to camp to warm up by a roaring fire, with soup and hot drinks. Sit around the red flames as you gaze in awe at the green flames above!

I loved the activity. Definitely recommend it to people. Even though there was a lot of snow and the sky wasn't clear enough for the lights, we got lucky and still managed to see the auroras. It was truly beautiful.

Vraiment une belle activité. Agréablement surpris. Le camp est très beau même de nuit. La nourriture est faite par un restaurant local et est excellente. Partage de la culture Sami et respect des animaux.
