Activity description

Discover the Nordic wilderness by snowshoe, visit the amazing Ice Domes and meet the reindeers of Camp Tamok.

During this adventure, our expert guide will take you on a snowshoe trail in the Scandinavian wilderness around the Tromsø Ice Domes. On the way, you will learn all the survival strategies which are essential when in the wild arctic circle. You will learn to spot animal tracks in the snow, and your guide will share knowledge of the terrain on the way. Halfway into your hike, you will stop at the nature camp, where you will chop wood, start a fire, and cook your own hot lunch, with the help of your guide. Bellies full, you will continue your training in Arctic survival skills, including how to sleep, what to eat, and how to protect yourself.

To reward yourself for your efforts at the end of your trek, you will have the opportunity to explore the beautifully sculpted ice hotel, which gets rebuilt out of ice and snow every Winter. You will be allowed to visit their ice bar, ice cinema, ice bedrooms and ice restaurants, all decorated according to local themes, from Sami culture to the Northern Lights. Take in the fantastically coloured lighting and ice sculptures and marvel at this unique natural edifice of ice. We also include a guided tour which will teach you about the ice hotel’s construction process, followed by a free non-alcoholic shot at the ice bar. Feel free to bring extra money for additional drinks or snacks at the ice restaurant. Finally, complete this tour of Camp Tamok with a visit to the camp’s friendly reindeer (Please note that there is no reindeer sledding, Sami culture, or reindeer petting involved in this tour).

We were welcomed by our very friendly tourguide when we arrived at the ice domes. With a small group (7) we started our wilderness snow shoes skills hike. All of the equipment and the thermo overalls were given to us right before we stared our hike. Our tourguide told us a lot about the wildlife and nature while we walked trough the snow and the beautiful landscape. We were greeted by some super cute and happy huskies who were part of the husky sledding group. During our walk we stopped to sit by a fire and enjoyed some hot chocolate and (vegetarian) sausages. After our hike we visited the ice domes and ended the tour with a shot of wodka with our tourguide.
