Diving on Caldera Beach
This activity is run and operated from Caldera Beach on Santorini Island in the Cyclades, Greece. Renowned for its active underwater volcano, Santorini has an array of popular dive sites centred around Nea Kameni, including Adiavatous Reef, Lion Face, and M.P.A reef.
Scuba diving around the Volcano in Santorini
Meet your divemaster at the activity base on Caldera Beach for this adventure dive package to Santorini’s underwater volcano. Suitable for certified divers only (PADI/SSI), groups are organised on a 4:1 ratio – ensuring supervision and guidance to a maximum depth of 30m. Once thought to be the location of the lost city of Atlantis, this spectacular site includes a reef, wreck, caves, and caldera rim – making it a bucket list location, not only for its stunning volcanic rock formations but its wealth of marine life, too. Still, under scientific investigation by marine scientists, you’ll find beautiful corals and sponges acting as a backdrop for an abundance of fish – all congregating around geothermal vents in the bedrock.
Dive sites
Hot Springs Shallow Wreck (13m) A World War II shipwreck. This dive is combined with an interesting reef.
Volcano ( 7-25m) An incredible experience to dive around the volcano. Enormous boulders, colourful sponges and a plateau bursting with life.
Adiavatous Reef (10 – 30m) Located inside the rim of the caldera, near the volcano, Adiavatous is one of the most beautiful reefs around Santorini. Home to a wealth of crustaceans and invertebrates, as well as plenty of fish including wrasse, anthias, groupers, and barracuda; the site is a favourite with local divers.
Conditions
Suitable for certified divers only, dives operate during the summer season from March-April. The island's dive sites are mostly positioned right next to a 400-meter drop-off, so good buoyancy control is a priority if you plan to explore any of the walls or pinnacles.
